Was this in response to something you'd read, or a totally insane coincidence?
a totally insane coincidence :) and a genuine question!
I think they could be a natural fit for a lot of people. Unfortunately, in the American West, Polygamy is often code for pederasty, as men take pre-teens for wives.
But, if it were not for that little fact, I think it could be a wonderful way to live for those so inclined. (Was this a terrible comment better left un-said. If so, I apologize.)

Polygamy? Polyandrony? As long as one does not make a religion out of it and one has good manners, I guess that it all depends on the company one keeps... providing it is between consenting adults, anything that increases the amount of passion and love between humans in this crazy world is a good thing!
However,ironically, parrots are monogamous!!!!;)
